Heavy duty and larger than expected
I didn’t pay close attention to the size when ordering – this is a lot bigger than expected. That said, it’s very well made and heavy duty. Magnet is strong and switch is consistently triggered at the exact same location. Easy to install if you have basic wiring knowledge and skills. Functionally met all my requirements for a fair price. No complaints!

Well Made, Works Great, Forgiving Placement
As long as you aren’t looking for precision feedback, this is great. The reed switch (sensor) works flawlessly, the built quality is pretty good (sturdy, though aluminum), and the pigtail is long enough to get out of the way.The included magnetic bar is pretty forgiving on placement. it will trigger the reed switch/sensor once it is about 3-4 inches away. The left to right positioning is more critical– mor than about an inch out of alignment with the sensor left or right and it won’t activate the sensor.The only complaint I have is that the included screws and hardware don’t have any provisions to attach this to concrete. I drilled a couple of holes in my garage floor and put in screws with plastic inserts/anchors. It holds fine, considering this will see very little force to try and knock it loose. I have this hooked up to a garage system to act as a dry contact and I have had zero issues.

Reliable and sensitive – triggers (circuit opens) from about 3-4 inches away, lightweight build
I’m using this to detect my garage door being open, and it’s fine for the purpose. The magnet is strong and the reed switch is sensitive – it triggers and opens the circuit when the magnet is about 4 inches away (or as small as 3 depending on the orientation). This simplifies the mounting because you don’t need the magnet to touch the sensor.That said, the sensor part is quite lightweight. It’s not solid but is mostly hollow. If you’re not running over it with cars all day it’ll probably be fine, but it’s not great. The pigtail is also quite short, and the mounting screws are not good at all (short and not hardened).Overall a good deal for $9, but you get what you pay for.

Good size for a garage door magnetic switch and flexible placement
The magnet is strong and heavy. The reed switch is light and has an aluminum housing. Based on my testing, on this particular switch and the switch parallel to the magnet, 3 inches is about the maximum gap to affect the reed switch, about an inch more than the mentioned >50mm. It can be used parallel to the switch or perpendicular, as shown in the photos. The gap will need to be narrower if using perpendicular. That will be in the >50mm range.
