June 2021. – 2 year reviewAfter almost 2 years of owning this light kit, I can say it is a good quality light. And the customer support was great the one time I needed them.The Light Unit (Head)The construction quality of the light and ballast is solid. The housing is metal, well finished, tightly fitted. The cables that connect to AC and to the head are good quality. The length of the AC cable is very decent. Probably 20ft. And the length of the header cable is probably 9ft. I wish that header cable was longer so one could leave the ballast on the floor and still reach a tall height on a fully extended C-stand.The yoke is strong and the lever to tighten the yoke in place is very strong, and has a spring loaded, large handle. Works great to keep a large soft box, that is front heavy, in placeThe front cone that attaches to the light via a Bowens S-type mount is not my favorite. I wish they had gone with the more traditional square barn door brackets like the film & video lights. Attaching barn doors to the round cone is not very reliable. But I have found 3rd party Soft boxes and speed rings that attach to the Bowens mount pretty well.The ballast / control unitThe ballast is one solid brick. it does have a clamp that attaches to a stand. (it comes as a loose clamp in the kit). That is very helpful. And helps to weigh down the light stand, while keeping the ballast upright and the menu system on it easy to go through. The ballast has a small round dial to increase or decrease the light intensity / brightness. And it doubles as a dial to go through the menu system, which has ‘light effects’ features and other control functions, like DMX, and firmware upgrade. Which means that with time this light actually gets better!ReliabilityI also have 3 light units by this company. (2) LS C120 mk 2, and (1) C300 mk 2. They have worked out very well for me as a Doc. and commercial promo video film maker. On Interior sets with AC, as well as Exterior locations with DC Battery power.Customer SupportBut more importantly, when I did have one issue with the C300 mk2, I contacted their tech support / customer support desk, and within the same day I received a response. Within 24 hrs I was able to send them the light for repair under warranty (free). Within 2 days they had received it. Within 3 days they had tested it. And sent me a replacement light unit. And within 5 days I had the replacement at my door. This is what I call a responsive company, that listens to their clients and deals fairly with them. for me it was a positive experience.For those people who are very price conscious or value conscious, this is what we pay the premium for. The customer service. And a US based repair facility. (My light was sent to Los Angeles CA).5 stars for customer support, yes. I hesitate to give the light unit 5 stars because that means perfection to me. And almost nothing is perfect. But these are my favorite lights in my kit, and some of the favorite lights I have worked with in a 20 + year career.The Carry CaseAnd the quality of the case the lights come in is very good as well. That counts a lot for DP’s like me who work in a different location each project and are constantly unpacking and repacking and moving gear. Good attention to detail by the company for the most part.
