The garage door sensor is an excellent tool that I had been looking for. I had a homemade LED light switch that would turn on if the garage door is open. The LED light is inside the kitchen where it’s very easy to see if someone has left the garage door open, so I have installed the LED to keep my cat inside. When I saw this garage door sensor, I immediately wanted to install on the top where it could replace the rigged up switch that turns my LED light. I have made experimentation on my testing table and seen that the sensor works from any direction. I need to make a bracket so I can fix the two parts with one on the top of the garage door and the second on the door jam so when the garage door is fully closed, the sensor would turn the LED light on telling me that the garage door is fully closed. Great value for the money.

Low Profile, Cast Aluminum; Sturdy and reliable
This works great. While it is cast zinc (steel would be stronger, but interfere with the magnet tripping the sensor), it is built very sturdy with a low profile and the internal reed switch securely epoxied in place. The construction is top notch.The magnet (to be installed on the door) is not as strong as I expected, but reliably closes/trips the sensor at 2-2.5 inches from the top of the sensor. You can misalign the magnet bar about 1″ in either direction and everything still works.In included angle bracket is fine, but I just screw the sensor to the floor and screwed the magnet to the garage door directly above the sensor. As long as the magnet is parallel with the sensor, it seems to work in any orientation. Regardless, after drilling holes in my floor, the rest of the installation took 5 minutes.As noted in the description, the sensor/contacts are open when the magnet is not nearby and the contacts close when the magnet gets within 2-2.5″.Overall, this thing seems well built and reliably works with my home automation system for alerting me when the garage door is not fully shut. Easy 5 stars.
